Growing up as part of the Jewish community in Australia, I have personally experienced both subtle and overt forms of anti-Semitism that have left me and my family feeling unsafe and marginalized. This is why I strongly believe in the necessity of extending the Royal Commission on Anti-Semitism.

The Royal Commission has been instrumental in uncovering systemic anti-Semitism and shedding light on the experiences of the Jewish community in Australia. By hearing testimonies and collecting evidence, the Commission has highlighted areas that need urgent reform and sparked conversations that challenge long-held prejudices. However, more time is necessary to fully address these issues and implement effective measures that will foster real change.

Anti-Semitism is often deeply ingrained in institutional practices, education, and everyday interactions. Extending the Royal Commission will allow for a more thorough investigation into the insidious nature of these biases and will help develop comprehensive strategies for education, prevention, and remediation. These strategies must include education reforms that focus on inclusive curriculums, increased awareness programs, and severe consequences for anti-Semitic actions.

According to the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, the 2022 report noted a 35% increase in anti-Semitic incidents compared to the previous year, proving that the work of the Royal Commission is far from complete. The continuation of this demanding task is essential to safeguard Australian Jews and promote equality, understanding, and harmony in our country.
