We are growing our support for a dedicated express bus service linking East Renfrewshire and Glasgow Airport. There is significant support for the plan which may come as little surprise. East Renfrewshire is growing and many of us use the airport for business and leisure. Getting to it should be simple and affordable.

I have received varying types of opposition. The harassment has been reported and that will always be how it is dealt with. Reasonable criticism is completely different. That must always be sought out and considered, as part of my aim is to generate debate. That leads to better decisions with a strong public mandate. One local taxi driver wrote to me explaining that the service would not be feasible. On closer consideration that is because he envisaged a half hourly service. I do not propose a half hourly service or anything like it. I am campaigning for a decent service which would see perhaps a couple of runs to and from the airport at peak times. If there was a demand for more (e.g. over a holiday season) that could perhaps be reviewed.

We need to balance ambition with sense. I am campaigning for something which is ambitious for our environment, ambitious those for whom taxi fares are too much and ambitious for businesses which need to watch expenditure. We cannot expect everything, but if we do not seek something, you can be sure we will get nothing.
