The Issue

This petition is created in loving memory of Bubba, a 6-year-old black and white Labrador Retriever mix who captured my heart from the first day I met him. Bubba was pure love — gentle, kind, full of life, and always ready for a cuddle or a walk outside. I fought with everything I had to find him a home, but it wasn't enough. Bubba was euthanized before he ever got the second chance he deserved. This is for him, and for every animal who never got the time they needed — every dog I’ve loved, walked, and sat beside, hoping for a better tomorrow. This petition is for him, and for every beautiful soul like him who deserves longer than 15 days to be saved.

At Harris County Animal Shelter, adoptable dogs and cats currently face euthanasia after only 15 days if they are not adopted. While we understand the challenges shelters face, this short timeframe gives many loving, adoptable animals, especially older ones, little chance of finding homes. With just a little more time, many of these pets could be adopted into caring homes. Fifteen days is not enough.

We respectfully ask Harris County Animal Shelter to extend the euthanasia holding period for adoptable dogs and cats from 15 days to at least 30 days or more. Giving these animals more time would save lives, strengthen community support, and allow volunteers and adopters more opportunities to match with the right pet.

These dogs and cats deserve a real chance. Please sign and share to help us fight for more time — and more hope — for the animals who need it most!
