Extend the Deadline for Waiving Dumping Fees for Yard Debris

The Issue

The ice storm on March 29th and 30th resulted in massive destruction throughout the county of Peterborough. In a commendable gesture of goodwill, the city waived dumping fees for waste related to the storm. This initiative, which currently ends on April 14th, has made it possible for us to begin a mass clean up of the debris, an effort that is ongoing and will need more time. While we express our immense gratitude to the city for the support provided thus far, we also recognize the magnitude of the remaining task at hand. Therefore, we are using this platform to request an extension on this deadline. Given that debris from a similar ice storm in 1998 resulted in nearly 30 million cubic yards of waste (source: Federal Emergency Management Agency), the extension would not only support individuals but also aid larger community efforts in their cleanup. Please show your support, not merely for waiving of fees, but for this much-needed extension. Please sign this petition today.
