*** 2019 Transit Network Review - Fraser Highway (502/503) improvements + articulated buses ***

TAKE THE SURVEY - https://translink.checkbox.ca/Transit-Network-Review.aspx

If you want to see 60-foot articulated buses on Fraser Highway before SkyTrain begins service, you're going to want to fill out this survey!

TransLink has begun the 2019 Transit Network Review to ask stakeholders across the region about proposed changes to bus service. Among the proposed service changes in Surrey, TransLink has proposed to modify the bus routes 502/503 to address capacity issues and to build ridership in advance of SkyTrain. To summarize the changes:

  • Route 503 will be redesigned into a high-frequency, limited-stop express service. You will be able to board and disembark at all current 503 stops between Surrey Central and Langley Centre, and service will now run every 8 minutes at peak hours instead of every 30 minutes between Surrey Central and Langley (every 15-minutes off-peak).
  • Route 502 service will be adjusted to every 12 minutes at peak times, as service will be redirected to the limited-stop route 503. Off-peak service will remain the same.
  • 503 trips connecting Surrey Central to Langley Centre will be served by 60-foot articulated buses, similar to those used on the 96 B-Line. These can hold up to 120 people, about 50 more than a standard bus!
  • Routes 345, 395 and 320 (which also service Fraser Hwy in Fleetwood) will continue to operate.

The new 503 bus will operate similarly to a B-Line bus and the overall improvements result in a near-doubling of bus capacity for riders along Fraser Highway in Surrey and Langley. We urge you to show your support as these improvements will offer needed capacity that builds ridership in advance of SkyTrain!

*** The region is highly supportive of Surrey-Langley SkyTrain! ***

A new Mustel Group survey of 2500 Metro Vancouver residents, conducted in Jan-Feb 2019, revealed strong support across the region for the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain, especially when compared against other major projects being considered in the 10-year vision.

In the survey, 47% of respondents said that extending Surrey-Langley SkyTrain is an excellent idea, receiving the highest "excellent" percentage among the surveyed options. Overall, 83% of those surveyed think it's an "excellent" or "good" idea.

The Mustel Group survey was referred to by Regional Mayors as part of their Cure Congestion campaign.
