Extend sidewalks down the road in Clover, SC

Extend sidewalks down the road in Clover, SC
The Issue
As a future student of Clover Middle School, I am deeply concerned about the current state of our town's infrastructure, specifically the lack of extended sidewalks on the roads leading to our school. Walking is a basic right and an essential form of exercise, yet many students, including myself, feel apprehensive about walking to school given the safety risks posed by busy roads without proper pedestrian pathways.
Currently, the sidewalks on these roads are too short, forcing students and other pedestrians to navigate areas where cars speed by, increasing the risk of accidents. It's not just an inconvenience; it's a daily risk that we shouldn't have to take. The absence of safe passageways is a pressing concern for many families in Clover, SC.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, pedestrian safety can be significantly increased with the provision of sidewalks, which reduce pedestrian-related accidents by up to 88%. Students, parents, and other community members should feel confident that their walkways are safe. By extending the sidewalks, we'd not only be able to walk in safety but also encourage a healthier lifestyle for students and reduce traffic congestion around the school.
The safety of children should be a priority in any community. Simple infrastructural changes, such as extending the sidewalks, will not only benefit the students of Clover Middle School but also improve the overall safety and livability of our town. We appeal to the Clover town council to take immediate action in extending these sidewalks. The safety and well-being of children depend on it.
Please sign this petition to make our roads safer for everyone, especially the young students of Clover Middle School.
