Extend School Lunch Periods to One Full Hour

The Issue

I, like many other students, often find myself rushing through my lunch, unable to finish, due to the brevity of the lunch period in our schools. This inadequate time for lunch leads to an unhealthy hurried eating habit and can negatively impact digestion, concentration, and ultimately, performance in school.

The reality is, 20 to 30 minutes lunch period as is common in many institutions is simply not sufficient. Many nutritionists recommend that meals should last at least 20 minutes as it takes that long for the body to realize it's full. This effectively means that many students start classes in the afternoon with a lunch that they haven't been able to enjoy and digest properly.

By extending the lunch period to one full hour, students would have ample time to eat at a leisurely pace, be able to socialize and bond with their peers, improving not only their physical health but also their psychological well-being. This extended break could offer the necessary rest that will foster creativity and concentration for the remaining activities of the day.

Let's ensure a healthy and less stressful environment for our student's lunch period. Join me in advocating for an extended lunch period of one full hour in our schools. Sign the petition.
