Extend route 120 operating hours

Extend route 120 operating hours
The Issue
Petition to Extend Route 120 Bus Service Operating Hours to 22:45
We, the undersigned, call upon Malta Public Transport and the Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects to extend the operating hours of Route 120 to 22:45, in line with other major bus routes across the island.
Route 120 is a vital service that connects Pembroke, Swieqi, St. Julian’s, San Ġwann, Mater Dei/University, Msida, Marsa, Paola, Fgura, Żabbar, and Xgħajra. It serves not only densely populated residential areas but also educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and key employment hubs. For many passengers, Route 120 is the only available public transport option in their area, especially in locations like Xgħajra, Kappara, San Ġwann, St Julian’s and certain parts of Pembroke.
Currently, this well-used route stops operating around 20:30, leaving residents and visitors without a reliable and accessible means of transport during the evening. This has a particularly negative impact on people who do not drive, including students, the elderly, shift workers, and those on lower incomes who depend entirely on public transport.
Extending Route 120’s service to 22:45 would:
• Improve accessibility and inclusivity for non-drivers.
• Support local businesses and evening activities.
• Align Route 120 with other routes that already run until later hours.
• Reduce car dependency and traffic congestion.
We urge the authorities to consider the growing demand and social necessity of a later service and to implement this change without delay.
