Extend Lemon Park splash pad opening to October 1st
The Issue
Dear Simi Valley Community,
For so many parents like myself, Lemon Park's splash pad is a cherished gem – a wonderful spot where our kids can play, laugh, and cool off. It’s clean, safe, and offers our families the perfect opportunity to spend quality time outdoors without any cost. Simply put, it’s a paradise for our children right in the heart of the city.
However, the joy it brings is too fleeting. Closing the splash pad just as September comes to an end means our kids miss out on those delightful extra days of sunshine and fun. Extending its operation until October 1st would mean so much to families who cherish this space. October can be a warm and inviting month in Simi Valley, and a few more days in the water would make a world of difference.
Currently, many communities throughout California have embraced the trend of extending splash pad open dates to accommodate warmer weather patterns. Not only does this decision benefit community wellness, but it also promotes inclusive recreational opportunities for all families, especially when such amenities are offered free of charge.
Logistically, keeping the splash pad open for another week would involve minimal adjustments and most likely require very little additional resources, considering that maintenance is already in place. By extending the closing date, we make the most of the infrastructure that supports community bonding and well-being.
I urge the Simi Valley City Council and Parks & Recreation Department to consider our request. Keeping Lemon Park's splash pad open until October 1st would signal the city’s commitment to supporting family-friendly, inclusive experiences.
Join us in signing this petition to extend the Lemon Park splash pad’s operational season. Let’s make sure our community continues to thrive and enjoy this fantastic local facility just a bit longer!
