Moving Wilmington’s last call time to at least 2 AM will make the city more competitive for leisure spending and more appealing as a home for younger generations. A thriving nightlife is essential for Millennial attraction and retention which would strengthen the tax base as well as help our small businesses who are still recovering from the pandemic.

Currently, Wilmington, DE enforces a last call at 1 AM, a restriction that places our city at a disadvantage compared to nearby areas that offer later nightlife activities. Our young professionals and visitors often find themselves ending their nights prematurely or traveling to neighboring states to continue their evenings, leading to a loss of local revenue.

Extending the last call to 2 AM could significantly contribute to Wilmington’s economic growth. This extra hour can increase business for bars, restaurants, and entertainment venues. Additionally, a later last call can enhance Wilmington's reputation as a vibrant city where young professionals want to live and work here. This, in turn, boosts local employment and strengthens our economic landscape.

Other cities that have extended nightlife hours report increased safety due to staggered end times reducing congestion and, therefore, potential incidents. Wilmington can also experience these benefits by adapting its night-life policies to align with these successful models.
