Extend funding for cancer immunotherapy beyond 2 years

Extend funding for cancer immunotherapy beyond 2 years
The Issue
My name is Katherine, and I am a young teacher living with my family. Like many others, I find myself facing the harsh reality that my immunotherapy treatment for cancer will be cut short due to the NHS's two-year funding limit. Since starting my treatment, I've experienced positive results, giving me precious time with my loved ones and hope for a future. However, unless the government intervenes, this lifeline of care will end prematurely in February 2026.
The current policy limits funding for cancer immunotherapy treatments to just two years, regardless of patient outcomes or ongoing need. This arbitrary cutoff disregards the fact that many patients benefit significantly from continued therapy, leading to sustained remission, improved quality of life, and the ability to contribute to society. It's a profound injustice to deny ongoing treatment when it offers real potential to save lives and reduce relapses.
Statistics show that cancer immunotherapy is a breakthrough in medical science, vastly improving survival rates and outcomes for patients. According to Cancer Research UK, cancer survival rates have doubled over the past 40 years, and immune-based therapies play a significant role in these advances. The promise of living longer, healthier lives should not be curtailed by an arbitrary bureaucratic limit.
I urge the UK Government and NHS leaders to reconsider and extend funding for cancer immunotherapy beyond the current two-year period. By doing so, they will support individuals like me in fighting cancer effectively and securing more time with our families. This change could potentially impact not just my life but the lives of countless others relying on these life-saving treatments.
Please join me in pushing for this essential change; the support you lend could not only extend treatment for families like mine but also drive a broader understanding of fair and equitable healthcare. Every signature brings us one step closer to ensuring all patients receive the continued care they genuinely need.
Please sign this petition to call on our leaders to make a crucial change for current and future patients alike. This is a companion petition to the official government one already set up. The link to the government official is below. Please sign both if you can and share!
