Extend Free Healthcare to International Students in Canada

Extend Free Healthcare to International Students in Canada
The Issue
This petition comes from a deep concern for international students in Canada who face sizable financial burdens while trying to achieve their academic aspirations. It's not merely about the hefty tuition fees they pay, but the additional stress they go through attempting to take on healthcare expenses, an aspect often overlooked.
International students contribute greatly to the Canadian economy, paying taxes akin to any other resident. In 2018 alone, international students contributed a whopping CAD 21.6 billion to Canada's GDP (Study in Canada, 2019). Despite these substantial contributions, international students do not have access to free healthcare, adding another financial burden on them.
This has resulted in many international students choosing between their health or their economic stability, a choice fraught with concerns and anxiety no student should confront during their academic journey. This current approach is not equitable or just, given the significant contributions these students make to the Canadian society and economy.
We are calling on the Canadian Ministries of Health and Education to reconsider and revise current healthcare policies towards international students. It is indispensable to start acknowledging their vast contributions and reciprocate with adequate healthcare support, thus upholding the core Canadian values of fairness. Please sign this petition to support the call for accessible and free healthcare for international students. Show your commitment to making Canada an equitable nation, valuing every resident's health and contribution.
