Many community members rely on swimming for its physical and mental health benefits, especially those who swim laps before and after work as part of their daily routine. It helps us stay fit, unwind, reset, and connect with others. However, Fawkner Outdoor Pool’s limited season (December to March) makes it difficult to maintain these healthy habits for more than 4 months a year.

Regular swimming is proven to reduce stress, improve mood, support cardiovascular health, and promote overall wellbeing. Extending Fawkner’s season would strengthen community health and connection and ensure more people can benefit from consistent access.

The Fawkner swimming community is calling for Fawkner Outdoor Pool to adopt the same operating season and opening hours as Oak Park Pool from spring 2026. Oak Park Pool opens on 1 October, remains open until the end of April, and offers early-morning lap swimming every day, allowing swimmers to maintain their routines without interruption. Fawkner swimmers deserve the same level of access and opportunity to stay active and connected to their community.

We urge Council and Fawkner Outdoor Pool management to adopt this extended schedule for the health and connection of our community.
