The Issue

Many of us in Beloit, Wisconsin, rely on the local bus system for our daily commutes. For countless residents, the bus is a lifeline that allows for mobility and independence. However, the current bus schedule does not accommodate the realities of modern work shifts or the essential tasks of daily life, such as shopping and visiting urgent care medical facilities. This becomes even more evident with the presence of companies like Amazon and the Casino, which employ a large number of our community members. These businesses operate beyond standard working hours and attract a workforce that would immensely benefit from extended bus services.

Currently, the limited operational hours of our buses make it challenging for many residents who start or end their shifts at odd hours. This inconvenience forces employees to arrange alternate and often costly means of transportation. It's a troubling reality that impacts our community's economic health and well-being, as it limits job opportunities only to those with flexible transport options.

An extension of bus service hours during weekdays and the introduction of weekend schedules would better serve Beloit's growing population and work demands. Such a change is not only feasible but necessary, given the city's development trajectory. Imagine being able to walk out of work late at night or early in the morning and hop onto a bus that takes you home safely and affordably.

Let's call on the Rock County Transit Commission to recognize this pressing community need. By extending bus services, they can directly improve the quality of life for many families, expand economic opportunities, and ensure that Beloit's infrastructure supports its current and future growth.

Sign this petition to demand better and more inclusive public transport options in Beloit. Together, we can make our community more accessible and equitable for everyone.
