Extend Bus Routes to Mayerthorpe School

Extend Bus Routes to Mayerthorpe School
The Issue
Every day, I drive my children to Mayerthorpe School, a journey that highlights a clear need in our community—one that can be resolved by extending the current bus routes. For families like ours, who live equidistant between Mayerthorpe and Sangudo, the absence of a direct school bus route to Mayerthorpe creates an unnecessary burden.
Mayerthorpe School is not only a school of choice for many parents due to its excellent educational standards, but geographically it is also just as accessible as other nearby schools. For instance, in our case, it's actually 1km difference between the alternatives, yet there is no bus service that accommodates our children. This forces many families into difficult routines that involve daily driving and logistical nightmares, just to ensure our children can attend the school we believe best fits their needs.
Extending the bus routes or adjusting a few transport lines would not only support dozens of families who face the same dilemma, but it would significantly enhance the quality of life for students as well. It would mean increased safety for children who would no longer need to commute in private vehicles, reduced traffic on the roads, and lower the carbon footprint—aligning with the larger goal of sustainable communities.
The financial cost of extending a bus route should be weighed against the collective savings in time, fuel, and family stress that would be achieved. Additionally, implementing such a change aligns with educational policies focused on accessibility and equal opportunity for all children, irrespective of their exact home location.
We urge the responsible transportation divisions and school authorities to consider this petition seriously and act on providing a much-needed service improvement. By signing this petition, you are supporting local families in Mayerthorpe, increasing student safety and promoting an efficient, sustainable approach to education transport.
