I reside in Nunavut, the most northern and largest region in Canada, affectionately known as the "Arctic". It is a region with the highest cost of living in Canada. Many people in our community live in poverty which is exacerbated by exorbitant grocery prices. Thus, we rely heavily on Amazon Prime for many of our necessities including affordable food delivery, clothing, vitamins, and many other items that are either unavailable or unaffordable locally. Despite our frequent usage of Amazon, Amazon Prime services are unavailable here.

Arctic communities face unique challenges due to their remote locations. According to Statistics Canada (2016), the cost of food alone can be up to two times higher than the national average. This disparity contributes to, as aforementioned, increased difficulties for many residents to afford necessities without assistance from services like Amazon Prime.

Access to affordable goods should not be limited by geography. Therefore, we urge Amazon.com Inc., as a global leader in online retailing and logistics, to extend its Prime service coverage area into Nunavut communities.

By doing so, they will help alleviate some financial stress faced by these vulnerable communities and ensure equitable access to essential goods for all Canadians regardless of their geographical location.
