As a student constantly rushing through a sea of over 1700 others, I face a daily unfair struggle. In our school building that spans 5 floors, we are given a meager 3 minutes to transition from one class to the next. This stringent time limit is unrealistic, causing us to be unfairly marked late, increasing stress, and leading to potential accidents as students begin to physically rush, resulting in shoving and potential injuries. Taking into consideration that hallways are becoming more congested every school year, the need for a longer transition period becomes even more critical. Many educational institutions have transition times between 5 and 10 minutes, recognizing the need for students to arrive to class safely and prepared (National Center for Education Statistics). Extending our school's transition period to 5 minutes will reduce stress, the risk of injuries, and the unjust marking of students as tardy. If you believe, like I do, that students' safety and fairness should be prioritized, I urge you to sign this petition. We need our voices heard, we need a 5-minute transition.
