The Issue

As a concerned resident of Mentor, Ohio, this issue weighs heavily on my heart. It has come to my attention that the school board of our town's public schools is politically biased and has removed important safety measures for protecting children from sexually explicit content. Within the libraries of our children's schools, 18 books have been found containing mature and disturbing themes, including sexuality, bestiality, molestation, pedophilia, and deeply uncouth racial slurs. One of these books even portrays a father graphically abusing his own child. Alarmingly, these books are accessible to all students, including those in grades K-12.

Despite numerous objections, the school board chose to keep these books within reach of our impressionable students. Instead of prioritizing the needs and safety of our children, they eliminated a policy that would've informed parents when their children encountered such explicit materials. Moreover, the Superintendent openly acknowledges the bias of the majority: the three members that align themselves with leftist ideologies, casually permitting books of any nature without any consideration of the potential impacts.

Our schools ought to be a safe, nurturing environment where academic growth is fostered, but these books offer no educational value. Indeed, the opportunity to obtain such inappropriate books in an educational setting is deeply concerning. The clear bias of the board further exacerbates the problem.

The Mentor Exempted School District put out a survey by Triad Research Group, in this survey there were no direct questions asking the public if they were knowledgeable of the sexually explicit books being readily available to the students. If the school had been more direct, I firmly believe they would have seen more pushback from survey takers. Only 2000 people took part in this survey. Mentor has a population of nearly 50,000 residents. This is why this petition is of most importance.

We as a community do not agree that children should be allowed to read books that contain sexually explicit content. We as a community do not think it's appropriate that only one side of the political aisle is in our schools. In fact, we as parents, grandparents, and a community as a whole dop not want to see any politics in schools.

By signing this petition, you are speaking up for the students, and the rights of parents. Let your signature show 3 board members Parental rights in education is a must for the success of this district. One board member said she isn't concerned with how the 25% of the community feels, but the whole community did not take said survey, so realistically, your signature will correct that, and hopefully show the Mentor School Board we as a community will not pass their levies if they refuse to listen to our concerns.

The school board serves the community and is accountable to us; it's time they stop prioritizing personal agendas over the welfare of our children. We call upon all residents of Mentor, Ohio, our fellow parents, and educators alike to demand transparency, reinstatement of essential safeguards, and an unbiased review process for books kept within our school libraries.

Support our demand for a safer, more objective educational environment for our children. Please sign this petition.
