Thank you again to everyone who has signed and shared this petition. Your support shows that many Canadians are deeply concerned about the dangerous and undemocratic alliances our political institutions are entangled in.

We are writing today to provide a critical update about the International Democrat Union (IDU)—a global alliance of right-wing parties that includes not only the Conservative Party of Canada, but also Israel’s Likud Party, led by Benjamin Netanyahu, and the U.S. Republican Party, which continues to provide political and financial support to the Netanyahu government.

Netanyahu’s government has been accused by international legal experts, UN officials, and human rights organizations of committing war crimes and ethnic cleansing in Gaza—amounting to genocide under international law. The Likud Party has continuously escalated this campaign, dehumanized Palestinians, and rejected peace or restraint. The Republican Party has served as a key backer of this violence, blocking efforts at accountability and supplying political cover.

🇨🇦 Why this matters to Canadians

Through the IDU, the Conservative Party of Canada is formally aligned with both Likud and the Republican Party. Worse still, the IDU is currently chaired by Stephen Harper, a former Canadian Prime Minister. His successor in the party, Pierre Poilievre, has refused to distance himself from Harper or the IDU. This creates a clear and deeply troubling link between Canadian conservative leadership and foreign parties complicit in atrocities.

We believe that no Canadian political party—especially one funded by taxpayers and running for public office—should be affiliated with or benefit from organizations that are connected to regimes accused of genocide, repression, and anti-democratic practices.

This is not a partisan issue. It is a moral one.

What we now demand:

Immediate severance of all ties between Canadian political parties and the IDU.
A public statement from Pierre Poilievre and the Conservative Party of Canada either disavowing the IDU or taking responsibility for their alignment with the Likud Party and its war in Gaza.
Stephen Harper must step down as Chair of the IDU and explain the extent of Canada’s involvement in coordinating political strategy with authoritarian regimes.

A formal inquiry into whether Canadian parties have received any form of strategic support or resources through the IDU that may violate our election laws or ethics.

Canadians deserve to know whether their political system is being used to legitimize or assist in ongoing crimes against humanity. We must not allow Canada to become complicit through silence or denial.
