The Issue

Chicks crushed between metal trays. Run over by carts. Left to die before they’re even old enough to be used for food. These are not rare incidents — they’re described as standard operating procedure at Case Farms, one of North Carolina’s largest poultry producers.

Yet state courts have dismissed a lawsuit alleging systemic animal cruelty, claiming the farm is exempt from liability because it produces food. If the North Carolina Supreme Court refuses to hear this case, it won’t just silence one lawsuit — it could cement a legal loophole that protects factory farms from consequences, no matter how brutal their practices.

If this ruling stands, commercial agriculture in North Carolina could be given a green light to harm animals in virtually any way, so long as the end product is meat. That means no court oversight. No accountability. And no justice — even for the most extreme and unnecessary cruelty.

We’re calling on the North Carolina Supreme Court to take up this case and affirm a basic principle: animal cruelty should not be protected under the guise of profit. This case isn’t about attacking farmers — it’s about stopping reckless abuse that even the industry’s own standards don’t defend.

Ignoring this case tells every factory farm in the state that it can do whatever it wants, behind any closed door. That’s not justice. That’s a dangerous precedent.

Sign this petition to demand the North Carolina Supreme Court hear the Case Farms cruelty lawsuit. The law must protect against abuse — no matter who’s doing it, or why.
