To President Noble, Executive Director Collinsworth, and Attorney General Moyer:

Rolling Stone magazine published an article "A Rape on Campus" in November 2014 which apparently depicted actions of sexual rape and assault against a University of Virginia student which she claimed occurred at and were propagated by members of the Virginia Alpha chapter of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. Today on December 5, the managing editor for the magazine posted a statement calling into question the veracity of the accused's statements, based on additional information about the accused not matching with information subsequently revealed by the accused chapter and others in the UVA  investigation.

One basic tenet of journalism is to be fair and balanced and get basic information to corroborate claims. Ms. Erdely failed to contact the local chapter of Phi Kappa Psi which could have easily refuted certain claims. In addition, by publishing the story without such corroboration, an entire national organization's reputation and credibility as "Men of Excellence" were severely tarnished by local state national and international media across all platforms. It is our hope that those responsible for any sexual assault are brought to justice.

We humbly request that the Phi Kappa Psi national President and Executive Director continue to investigate the facts surrounding this case and if the article's content and other writings are deemed libelous that they work together and ask the Executive Council to vote as soon as possible to sue the magazine's holding company, magazine, managing editor, and writer for  compensatory and punitive damages with proceeds to be donated equally between sexual assault prevention programming for the National Intefraternity Conference members and a journalism scholarship for Phi Kappa Psi undergraduate and graduate students.
