The Issue

We are a group of engaged St. Petersburg residents who have witnessed the detrimental effects of I-175 since its construction in 1980. This highway has not only displaced hundreds of our fellow citizens but has also contributed to numerous fatal traffic accidents, increased pollution levels, and heightened asthma rates in South St Pete. It stands as a physical barrier separating South St Pete from downtown, causing businesses to shutter due to unsafe one-way streets created post-construction.

I-175 is underutilized with drivers using only 30% of its intended capacity, making it an unnecessary obstruction in our city's landscape. The removal of this spur won't significantly affect commute times; instead, it will open up 24 acres for potential housing and public space development.

After enduring the division for over four decades, we believe it's time for our neighborhoods to be reconnected and heal from this urban scar. We urge our elected officials to prioritize this project - the expedited removal of I-175

Join us in advocating for a safer, healthier and more united St Petersburg community by signing this petition today! Together we can make a difference!
