Dear Premier Ford,

We, the undersigned tenants and landlords of Ontario, respectfully bring to your attention a matter of great concern that affects both our communities and the overall well-being of our province. The current delays within the Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) in Ontario have reached an unacceptable level, leaving tenants and landlords in a state of distress and financial instability as they wait for hearings that can take between 4 to 8 months to be scheduled.

These prolonged waiting times for hearings at the LTB have created a dire situation for tenants and landlords alike. The ramifications of these delays extend far beyond mere inconvenience, impacting the lives and livelihoods of many Ontarians. As a result, we urge you to take immediate action to address this issue for the benefit of all residents of the province.

Tenants and landlords alike face significant challenges during this extended waiting period:

1. Financial Hardship: Many tenants and landlords rely on the timely resolution of disputes to manage their finances and maintain housing stability. The extended waiting times create financial burdens that are often insurmountable.

2. Mental Stress: The uncertainty and anxiety caused by lengthy delays in the resolution of disputes take a severe toll on the mental well-being of tenants and landlords. This stress is detrimental to our communities and must be alleviated.

We, the undersigned, respectfully request that you consider implementing the following measures to address this issue:

1. Increase Resources: Allocate additional resources to the Landlord and Tenant Board to expedite the scheduling of hearings and reduce waiting times.

2. Streamlined Processes: Evaluate and implement procedures to streamline the dispute resolution process and minimize unnecessary delays.

3. Communication: Enhance communication between tenants, landlords, and the Landlord and Tenant Board to ensure transparency and maintain clear expectations.

4. Temporary Relief Measures: Consider implementing temporary relief measures for tenants and landlords who face extreme financial hardship due to the delays in hearings.

We firmly believe that these measures will alleviate the hardships currently faced by both tenants and landlords in Ontario, ensuring that they can access a fair and timely resolution of their disputes. By doing so, you will promote housing stability, financial security, and mental well-being for all residents of the province.

We sincerely request your attention to this critical matter, and we hope to see swift and effective action taken to resolve the current issues at the Landlord and Tenant Board. Your leadership can make a significant difference in the lives of Ontarians who depend on a fair and efficient dispute resolution process.

Thank you for your consideration, and we look forward to a positive response to this petition.
