Expedite Citizenship Ceremonies to Clear Backlog in Brisbane City Council

The issue

As a group of approved applicants for Australian citizenship, we are deeply concerned about the significant backlog of citizenship ceremonies within the Brisbane City Council. We understand that these ceremonies are a vital part of our journey towards becoming Australian citizens, and we eagerly await our opportunity to formally pledge allegiance to Australia and call this wonderful country home.

However, due to the current backlog, thousands of us find ourselves waiting an estimated 6-10 months or more for an invitation to a ceremony. This is far beyond the expected wait time of 3-6 months. The delay has caused considerable stress and uncertainty among us as we navigate this important life transition.

We believe that adding more ceremonies could significantly reduce this backlog and bring us closer to achieving our dream of becoming Australian citizens. We urge both the Department of Home Affairs (DOHA) and Brisbane City Council to address this issue as soon as possible.

We kindly request your support in signing this petition so that our voices can be heard by DOHA and Brisbane City Council officials. Together, let's advocate for expedited citizenship ceremonies in order to clear up the existing backlog within Brisbane City Council promptly.
