Hello everyone,
I’m pleased to share an important update following our recent efforts on expanding core storage capacity at the Exploration Data Centre (EDC) in Zillmere, QLD.
At the QUPEX (Queensland Upstream Petroleum Exploration) talk today, I had the opportunity to meet Minister Dale Last, the designated decision-maker for our petition. Throughout his talk he expressed strong praise for his government’s leadership in advancing oil and gas development across Queensland, highlighting a commitment to growth in drilling and exploration initiatives.
However, he seemed unaware of the current storage challenges at the Exploration Data Centre (EDC) in Zillmere, specifically, that it is near capacity and has not accepted any petroleum-related core samples since 2019 due to space and funding constraints.
This response underscores a key gap between policy enthusiasm and infrastructure realities. It emphasizes why our petition is so crucial, not just to preserve Queensland’s position as a geoscience and resource leader but to ensure long-term data integrity and research opportunities.
So, what’s next?
We need to amplify our message. Let’s ensure the issue of storage constraints is clearly communicated to decision-makers like Minister Last.
Follow-up outreach. I‘ll be requesting a meeting with the Minister—or relevant departmental staff—to bring their attention directly to the storage crisis.
Build momentum. We’re only ~48 signatures away from reaching 400, which will strengthen our push and visibility.
Thank you all for your ongoing support. Your voices are making a difference. Together, we can close this policy-awareness gap and safeguard Queensland’s geological heritage for future exploration, research, and innovation.
If you have ideas for outreach, media connections, or contacts within the government or industry, please get in touch.
Onward and upward,
Amely Allgoewer
