Expanded Stadium Seating at Aragon High School
The Issue
Aragon High School is one of the largest and most vibrant school communities in the district — yet our stadium has some of the most limited seating capacity of any high school in the area. For more than six years, students, parents, and school organizations have consistently advocated for expanded stadium seating. Our facilities should reflect the size, energy, and pride of the Aragon community.
With only approximately 650 total seats — about 500 on the home side and 150 on the visitor side — for nearly 1,700 students, many families, students, alumni, and community members are regularly unable to attend and comfortably participate in school events. Bleachers often fill before families and visiting communities arrive, creating overcrowding, accessibility challenges, and safety concerns.
Aragon has one of the lowest seating-to-student ratios in the district, highlighting a clear facilities equity gap for one of the district’s largest school communities.
- Aragon High School: ~650 seats for 1,680 students
- Burlingame High School: ~2,667 seats for 1,630 students
- Hillsdale High School: ~1,800 seats for 1,520 students
- Mills High School: ~1,800 seats for 1,120 students
- San Mateo High School: ~3,200 seats for 1,557 students
This issue goes beyond football games. Limited seating impacts:
- Student athletics and school spirit
- Pep band and music participation
- Graduations and school-wide celebrations
- Families with elderly relatives or mobility needs
- Community events that bring Aragon together
Expanded seating would:
- Create a safer and more accessible environment
- Allow more families and community members to attend events
- Support student musicians and performing arts participation
- Strengthen school spirit and community connection
- Improve equity compared to other district high schools
This Fall, the School Board will vote on the District’s Facilities Master Plan, which will help determine future campus improvement priorities. We are asking the District to prioritize expanded stadium seating at Aragon High School as part of that plan on both the home and visitor sides of the stadium.
By signing this petition, you are showing support for a safer, more inclusive, and more connected Aragon community. Please join students, parents, alumni, neighbors, athletes, musicians, and supporters in advocating for expanded stadium seating at Aragon High School!
