Expand Trap-Neuter-Return Support for Community Cats
The Issue
I own a local rescue in Tullahoma, Tennessee. I rescue kittens and TNR colony cats and I just helped a friendly cat named Mr Kitty who had clearly ended up in a feral colony when he should never have been there in the first place. He was so friendly that I picked him right up, put him in a crate, and neutered the same day. When I saw how out of place he was, it hit me again how many cats are surviving because ordinary people step in and do this work. And when I returned him to his colony, he was ecstatic to be back in the place he knew.
This is bigger than one cat. Community cats are everywhere, and too many of them are left to reproduce, suffer, or get handled in ways that do not actually solve anything. Trap-neuter-return saves lives, reduces future litters, and gives cats a better chance at a stable life. It also helps the people in neighborhoods who are already doing this work with very little support.
That is why I am asking local animal shelters, animal control agencies, Alderman and Mayors of Manchester and Tullahoma, Tennessee to expand support for trap-neuter-return programs for community cats. We need more access to low-cost and same-day spay and neuter services, better coordination with rescuers, and clear policies that treat community cats humanely. Friendly dumped cats should be assessed carefully, and established colony cats should be handled with the goal of stabilizing the colony, not making the situation worse.
If you believe TNR saves lives and that community cats deserve humane care, please sign this petition. Mr Kitty should not have had to depend on luck and one person noticing he needed help. Let’s build systems that support rescuers, protect cats, and give communities a real solution.
