As a registered medical cannabis patient in Texas, I rely on this medicine to manage my combat PTSD. However, the high cost of TCUP-approved medicines puts an undue financial burden on me and my family. The right to grow my own medicine at home would allow me to cultivate specific strains that best control my PTSD without causing financial hardship.

The State of Texas has recognized that patients like myself benefit from medical cannabis. Yet, many of us cannot afford the exorbitant costs associated with this medicine. In fact, the Texas medical cannabis program is over 50% more expensive than any other state's program (source: National Conference of State Legislatures). This pricing disparity echoes issues seen with insulin price gouging and places many patients in extreme financial distress.

We propose an amendment to the Texas Compassionate Use Program (TCUP) allowing all registered patients the right to a home grow program for their medicinal cannabis. This change will not only provide financial relief but also ensure that each patient can access the specific strains best suited for their individual health needs.
