Expand the Registry- Demand NY Senate Pass S814 to Increase Organ Donor Registrations

The Issue

Everyday, countless lives are on knife-edge as they await a lifesaving organ transplant. NY State Senate Bill 2025-S814 can change this by making it easier for individuals to opt for organ donation during routine health check-ups.

17 people die each day anticipating a compatible organ transplant due to a scarcity of donations in the United States alone (U.S. Department of Health & Human Services). And currently, over 100,000 patients are on the national transplant waiting list. Every 8 minutes, an individual is added to the New York transplant waiting list (Donate Life New York State). But just one donor can save the lives of 8 individuals and significantly improve one’s quality of life.

Despite the dire need of organs for transplantation, restrictions in the system limit the pool of potential donors. Thousands upon thousands of individuals will continue to endure persistent suffering and their families will be forced to grapple uncertainties if no further action is taken.

Senate Bill 2025-S814 has the capability to streamline the organ donation process, making it commonplace in healthcare rather than an altruistic act. The bill strives to create an environment where more people can become transplant heroes by simply ticking a box during a routine medical visit.

To bring this objective into fruition, we need YOU to ensure that our local assembly and senate members endorse and sign this bill into law. Supporting this initiative carries the greatest potential of transforming thousands of lives. Please sign this petition and lobby for Senate Bill 2025-S814, and make the act of giving life more attainable to all.
