Expand Space-A travel eligibility for 100% disabled veterans
Expand Space-A travel eligibility for 100% disabled veterans
The Issue

I am a 100% service-connected disabled veteran who served honorably in the United States Armed Forces, and I have personally experienced the limitations of the current Space-A (Space Available) travel eligibility rules. After having given so much in service to our country, it is deeply frustrating to face restrictions in traveling to overseas destinations. Many disabled veterans, like myself, dream of visiting family overseas or retiring abroad. However, under the current rules, 100% disabled veterans are generally restricted to flying only within the continental United States and certain U.S. territories like Guam.
This situation is not only unfair but also unnecessary. The Department of Defense, Secretary of War, and Congress need to recognize that expanding Space-A eligibility to include all OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) destinations for 100% disabled veterans and their accompanying dependents would make a tremendous difference. There is already a successful precedent in allowing military retirees this privilege. Extending it to disabled veterans will not cost the government extra money as these flights have available space and operate regardless of additional passengers.
Each year, thousands of disabled veterans could greatly benefit from having greater travel options to maintain vital family connections, explore new cultures, and live out their retirement dreams with dignity. By allowing 100% disabled veterans the opportunity to use surplus military flights to all foreign destinations, we not only acknowledge their sacrifice but also uphold our commitment to improving their quality of life.
Please help us make this necessary change possible by signing this petition. Your support can help rally Congress, the Department of Defense, and related authorities to expand Space-A travel eligibility for all 100% disabled veterans and their families.
