Expand SNAP benefits - menstrual supplies, hygiene products, diapers

Expand SNAP benefits - menstrual supplies, hygiene products, diapers
Why this petition matters
SNAP allows low income families to purchase food from grocery stores - and that's it. As of right now, there are no such programs for menstrual supplies, diapers, or basic hygiene products like toothbrushes. These things are all necessities that so many people in poverty can't afford.
Illinois recently applied for a SNAP waiver allowing these items to be purchased using EBT benefits, and passed a bill to help implement these changes if it's accepted (House Bill 155 if you want to look into it.) Minnesota is working on passing a similar bill, and Massachusetts should do so as well. The more states pass bills like this, and apply for waivers allowing the purchase of these products, the more likely it is to be put into practice on a federal level.
Some Statistics:
-Parents spend on average $120 per month on diapers
-Women typically spend $20 on menstrual products per cycle
-1 in 4 us teens miss class because of lack of menstrual supplies
-11.8% of children live below the poverty line
