The Issue

Every day, we have the power to use our voices to make a real difference. As we approach Suicide Prevention Month, I want to highlight the urgent need to expand mental health programs in schools. The alarming rates of youth suicide from August through September and in the spring months of April and May show that we need to take action now. These are the times when depression often goes unrecognized, leading to devastating outcomes.

School is a place where students spend a significant part of their lives, and it's essential that we create a supportive and safe environment for them. By expanding mental health resources and education in schools, we can ensure that students have access to the support they need. Encouraging students to speak up and reach out can be a game changer. It's crucial that we equip our schools with the necessary tools to identify and address mental health challenges early.

Imagine a school where every student feels seen and heard, where teachers are trained to recognize signs of depression, and where counseling services are readily available. We need to break the social norms that prevent students from seeking help. By implementing comprehensive mental health programs, we can provide invaluable resources to both students and educators.

I ask you to join me in urging school boards and educational authorities to prioritize mental health. Let's advocate for change and bring much-needed sunshine into the lives of our youth. Your voice can be the catalyst for saving a life, perhaps even the life of someone you know. Together, we can foster a supportive community where every student feels safe and valued.

Please sign this petition to expand mental health programs in our schools. We can make a difference, one voice at a time.
