Expand Late French Immersion Program in School District 20's Rossland Summit School

Expand Late French Immersion Program in School District 20's Rossland Summit School
The Issue
As concerned parents + community members, we are deeply worried about the limited opportunities in our local school for children to experience a comprehensive Late French Immersion education.
We strongly believe in the importance of inclusive education and the right of every child to learn the French language and partake in public offered programs if they show interest in it.
Despite this belief, it appears our local administration, within School District 20, disagrees.
Each year, their Late French Immersion program admits 30 students via a lottery system, inevitably denying access to many interested applicants.
It is a recurrent issue that was also experienced in last year's enrollment process.
This present system denies countless children of the opportunity to immerse themselves in the French language and culture, significantly impacting their linguistic skills and cultural competence.
It goes against the spirit of fostering diversity and inclusive education, which is stated in SD20 Vision:
“To be an inclusive learning community where everyone has the opportunity to learn, achieve their full potential, and be empowered to pursue their aspirations."
This petition seeks to encourage the School District 20 administration to reassess their Late French Immersion program offered at Rossland Summit School and develop a system that accommodates all interested students.
Opening enrollment to more students will not only benefit the children themselves but enhance the cultural vibrancy of our locale.
Stand with the Grade 5 parents of 2024 / 2025 to request an expansion of the 2026/ 2027 Late French Immersion program at Rossland Summit School.
Please SIGN this petition to lend your voice to the many students hoping to immerse themselves in a diverse learning experience for the years to come.
