At the heart of this issue is the disproportionate influence and market dominance wielded by Big Tobacco, locking out independent vape businesses who offer safer alternatives. This isn't just about business; it's about public health. Independent vape products have been shown as less harmful alternatives for adult smokers seeking to quit traditional cigarettes, which contain thousands of toxic chemicals.
Despite the fact that representatives like Spanberger, Jones, and Miyares receive substantial donations from major tobacco conglomerates like RJR and PM International, our request is not unreasonable. We urge Virginia legislators and officials to invite and include independent vape manufacturers in legislative sessions. Currently, these critical conversations around vaping are noticeably absent of voices from the independent sector, which could provide diverse and valuable perspectives beyond the narrative spun by entrenched tobacco interests.
