Expand Hygiene Access for Women Experiencing Homelessness in Los Angeles
The Issue
Access to clean restrooms and showers is a basic necessity that many of us take for granted. However, for women experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles, finding safe and clean facilities can be a daily challenge. Women who are already facing the difficulties of homelessness should not have to struggle to access something as essential as a bathroom or shower.
According to the 2022 Los Angeles County Women's Needs Assessment, 70% of the women surveyed reported difficulty accessing safe, clean bathrooms, while 60% reported difficulty accessing showers. These statistics highlight the challenges many women experiencing homelessness face when trying to maintain their personal hygiene and health.
Existing restroom and shower facilities are not always easily accessible, particularly for women who may have concerns about their safety and privacy. Without adequate security and privacy measures, women may be at greater risk of experiencing unsafe situations. Expanding access to safely managed, women-only, and free restroom and shower facilities could help address these concerns and improve their well-being.
I am creating this petition to encourage Los Angeles city officials and local organizations to expand access to free, safe, and clean restrooms and showers for women experiencing homelessness. One possible solution is to provide more mobile shower units and public restrooms in areas where these services are needed most. Partnering with local organizations to expand existing facilities and operating hours could also help make these resources more accessible.
Everyone deserves access to basic hygiene facilities, regardless of their living situation. Expanding these services would help protect the health, safety, and dignity of women experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles. Please sign this petition to support expanding access to safe, clean, and free restrooms and showers for women experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles.
