Expand Emergency Foster Access for Red-Listed Dogs at DeKalb Animal Services
The Issue
Miracle is sitting at DeKalb Animal Services in Chamblee, Georgia not because she did anything wrong, but because the shelter is way over full and there is no space. That is what hit me so hard about her story. She is a sweet dog who loves to be loved, and right now a full shelter is what is putting her at risk. No good dog should end up on a red list just because there are not enough open kennels.
This is bigger than one dog, even though Miracle is the reason I am speaking up. When a shelter is overcrowded, dogs who are friendly, adoptable, and ready for homes can run out of time for no reason other than capacity. Families who would help often do not know where to start, what paperwork matters most, or how quickly they need to act. If emergency fostering is supposed to save lives, it has to be easy to understand and easy to access.
I am asking DeKalb Animal Services to expand and clearly promote emergency foster access for red-listed dogs, including simple instructions, fast response for qualified fosters, and visible information about free fostering for people in Georgia. If transport options exist for out-of-area adopters, that information should be shared clearly too. People want to help dogs like Miracle, but help only works when the path is clear and urgent cases are matched with homes before it is too late.
Please sign this petition to ask DeKalb Animal Services to remove barriers and move red-listed dogs into foster and adoptive homes faster. Miracle needs a hero right now, and so do the other dogs facing the same overcrowding crisis. If enough of us speak up, we can push for a system that gives these dogs a real chance.
