The Issue

As a Cognitive Science Major with a focus in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), it has become increasingly difficult for me, and others like me, to graduate on time due to limited course offerings. Within the AI/HCI interdisciplinary electives, most courses offered by the Computational Media Department (CMPM) relate more specifically to video game design, while the remaining electives are either discontinued, offered biannually, or restricted to other majors.

Specifically, we need more access to the following courses that pertain to AI, HCI, and UX Design: CMPM-80i (Human Centered AI), CMPM-80h (Intro to HCI), CMPM-130 (UI & UX Design), CMPM-177 (Strategies for Interactive Media), CMPM-178 (Human Centered Design Research), and other vital AI or HCI related courses.

As per 'Education Data', 6 years has become the new normal for completion of a Bachelor’s degree in American public universities. It's largely due to the insufficient availability of required classes. This delay not only extends the financial burden of education but also hinders students from transitioning into the workforce or advanced studies. We aspire to be at the forefront of technology and science, and the adequate offering of these vital courses is an absolute necessity to meet our graduation goals. Please support us in our quest for timely graduation by signing this petition. Let's urge the administration to open up more AI and HCI classes to Cognitive Science majors. Together, we can ensure that every committed student is provided with the opportunity they need to succeed. Your signature can make a real difference for us.
