Expand the Brio storyline on Good Girls
Expand the Brio storyline on Good Girls
The Issue
Dear NBCUniversal and Good Girls Series Creator Ms. Jenna Bans:
Thank you for making such compelling work in Seasons 1 and 2 between the characters of Beth and Rio. What we experienced between them electrifies us. The soundtrack is incredible and magnifies the emotionality of their experiences.
The narrative climate Rio and Beth need to develop their dynamic honestly and fully changed in Seasons 3 and 4 (4.1-4.2, so far).
The series gets its grounding—its tension, its grit—from who Rio is and what he does. The growth potential for Beth as the series' protagonist is furthered by Rio's character.
We need Brio.
It confuses the majority of this fandom, who crave more screentime for Rio because his character gives the show pulse, Mr. Montana playing Rio like a second skin, why Rio has much less screen time in Season 3 and so far in Season 4 than in Seasons 1 and 2. It also confuses the undersigned fandom why we see the relationship between Rio and Beth, Beth portrayed in stamina by Ms. Hendricks, stagnate and recirculate instead of the characters able to explore their feelings about each other in full agency.
Thank you for writing and giving us these two strong, complex characters from the start—Beth and Rio are each vulnerable, fiery, and alive for success. They have potential, if joined on equal footing, to quite literally, take down/over the world. This plot development could open an in-depth exploration of complexities in crime and let the two of them be in all possibilities of their intimate connection. Even after the Season 2 finale, this plot development could still happen in a way that would feel real and true to their characters.
The Good Girls fandom on Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, and Reddit shows animated conversation, often expressing disappointment, frustration, and even hurt, that we do not see any of the explosive potentials for Brio being developed. The show hooked in a majority of its fandom because of Brio in Seasons 1 and 2.
There is no other plotline we stand behind more.
