As passionate and deeply-held fans of the Harry Potter saga, we are seriously concerned about the casting decisions for the reboot planned by HBO Max and Warner. We ask for respect for the character traits established by J.K. Rowling. We demand a review of the casting of the actor who will play Severus Snape and other characters to be as close to what the author described.

We are fed up with forced inclusion and replacing characters with established traits for the benefit of minorities. Potterheads around the world love the complexity and depth of each character as conceived and we insist that these must be preserved.

There are studies that point to the importance of fidelity in literary adaptations to the big screen (Bortolotti and Hutcheon, 2007), particularly in beloved and world-renowned sagas like Harry Potter. Deviating too much from the original characters can alienate the established fan base and spoil what makes the saga so special in the first place. 

Please sign this petition to make HBO Max, Warner and the teams responsible for the reboot understand that we, the true Harry Potter fans, demand that the original character descriptions and personalities established by J.K. Rowling be respected, starting with Severus Snape.

Como profundos y apasionados seguidores de la saga de Harry Potter, estamos seriamente preocupados por las decisiones de casting para el reboot planificado por HBO Max y Warner. Pedimos respeto por las características de los personajes establecidas por J.K. Rowling. Exigimos una revisión en la elección del actor que interpretará a Severus Snape y otros personajes para que sean lo más parecidos a lo descrito por la autora.

Estamos hartos de la inclusión forzada y de que se reemplace a personajes con características ya establecidas en beneficio de las minorías. Potterheads alrededor del mundo aman la complejidad y profundidad de cada personaje tal cual fue concebido e insistimos en que estos deben ser conservados.

Hay estudios que apuntan a la importancia de la fidelidad en adaptaciones literarias a la pantalla grande (Bortolotti y Hutcheon, 2007), particularmente en sagas amadas y reconocidas mundialmente como Harry Potter. Desviar demasiado de los personajes originales puede alienar a la base de fans establecida y echar a perder lo que hace a la saga tan especial en primer lugar.
