The Issue
Support us in building a Parkour Park in Exeter
We would like YOU and Exeter City Council to support us in the construction of a new parkour park in Exeter. The closest parks to Exeter are located in the South East and in Scotland, with a small facility in Taunton.
What is parkour?
Parkour is a sport and physical discipline comprised of a set of adaptive techniques which are used to overcome obstacles. It’s practice involves moving freely over and through any terrain using only the abilities of the body, principally through running, jumping, vaulting, and climbing. In practice it focuses on developing the fundamental attributes required for such movement, which include strength and fitness, balance, spatial awareness, agility, coordination, precision, control and creative vision.
The aims of this project are to:
- Build a home for the parkour community in the wider local area, a place for young practitioners to safely meet, train together, and find new opportunities.
- Provide a new and exciting facility that will encourage people of all ages to discover. explore, and develop themselves through movement.
- Offer facility for other uses, such as calisthenics, outdoor fitness classes, and bootcamps.
We would like this to make this site the home of parkour in the South West; combining some outstanding existing features from other parks here in the UK, and those in Denmark, where the sport is very popular. We would like to create something truly special that can be enjoyed by many different people within the city and further afield.
