Last Thursday CNN released a news feature highlighting the work of non-profit No One Left Behind (NOLB). The story showcases the support NOLB provides to Iraqi and Afghan translators who work alongside U.S. troops overseas as they seek safety and a new life in the United States. Matt Zeller, Janis Shinwari, and NOLB were named 2018 CNN Heroes for their work to help America’s Wartime Allies with Special Immigrant Visas (SIVs) resettle safely in the United States.
In this feature, Zeller and Shinwari each articulate the unique and critical value of NOLB to the functioning of the U.S. military in combat zones and to keeping America’s promise to our Wartime Allies.
“Afghan and Iraqi translators, they put themselves and their families at extreme risk to help us win our military’s mission,” said Matt Zeller, No One Left Behind Founder. “These individuals fight shoulder to shoulder with our troops. They are proud patriots who signed up to defend their country and to help us with our mission. How could we leave these people behind?”
“If you decide to work with U.S. troops you are not only putting yourself in danger; you are putting your entire family in danger,” No One Left Behind Co-Founder Janis Shinwari added. “I have still a lot of translators back in Afghanistan...they are living in danger for years. The only hope that they have is to come to the United States.”
