Exempt Veterans from New York's Congestion Pricing

Exempt Veterans from New York's Congestion Pricing
The Issue
As a veteran and a resident of New York, I understand the challenges that congestion pricing can pose for us. We are a protected class in this state, with many among us disproportionately disabled. The forced increases in pricing, especially without proper investment in alternative forms of transportation, affect our ability to travel to medical appointments, places of work including duty stations and other critical needs.
New York's congestion pricing was designed to reduce traffic and generate revenue for public transportation. However, it has inadvertently placed an additional burden on veterans who already face numerous challenges. According to the U.S Department of Veterans Affairs (2019), nearly 1 million veterans live with disabilities related to their service.
We propose an exemption for veterans from New York’s congestion pricing based on the state's definition of a veteran. This exemption would not only provide financial relief but also acknowledge the sacrifices made by those who have served our country.
We urge lawmakers to consider this proposal seriously and act swiftly for the benefit of all veterans living in New York State. Please sign this petition if you believe that our veterans deserve better treatment and should be exempted from New York’s congestion pricing.
