Exempt Provident Welworth City residents from road toll at Marasandra Toll gate and make it safe and friendly for women drivers

Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited has activated a toll gate at Marasandra on Doddaballapur road recently. No publicity was given to the local residents and there is no clarity about the entity who is authorized to operate this toll gate.  There is no public display of information of concerned authorities to be contacted and the persons operating the toll do not have ID cards. This is a safety issue for women who drive independently. This issue cannot be neglected and immediate steps should be taken to post personnel with proper background police check and ID cards prominently displayed.

It is brought to the notice of the Provident Welworth  City Residents Welfare Association (PWCRA) a registered body) that the toll personnel are rude and misbehaving with the residents  and are collecting toll with threats and harassment from residents of PWC who are residing just a kilometer from the toll gate. This is against the policy of the NHAI which has clearly mentioned that local residents should be exempted from toll and they should be issued a Local Resident Pass (LRP).

The Toll authorities are deliberately not publicizing the details and harassing the residents of PWC. Women are now afraid to drive independently.

The residents of PWC are respectable and responsible tax paying, law abiding citizens of this country and this treatment by vested interests acting as self-appointed guardians of law is unwarranted and unconstitutional.

We PWC residents therefore request an immediate resolution to this serious problem taking the following into consideration.

1.    Interim exemption of toll for residents of PWC at the toll plaza by presenting any government ID such as voter ID, Aadhar Card, Ration Card, PAN, Senior Citizens card, passport (which are all issued by the Government) and RC  of the vehicle with the local address until a LRP is issue by the toll authorities.

2.    The personnel operating the toll should prominently display their ID and should have mandatorily got a Police clearance at the time of appointment

3.    The toll collecting agency should display the details of the Toll operator with contact numbers of officials prominently displayed with their mobile numbers and e-mail IDs.

4.    KRDCL should take immediate steps to issue LRP on a priority as soon as possible.

The decision makers are requested to take the above issues into consideration and give necessary instructions to the Toll operator to exempt collection of toll from PWC residents as per the provisions where residents within a 5 KM radius who are exempted from the payment of toll when plying in a non-commercial vehicle.
