The Issue

Petition for Tariff Exemption for Model Trains
To: United States International Trade Commission and the Office of the United States Trade Representative
We, the undersigned model train enthusiasts, collectors, and industry professionals, respectfully petition for the exemption of model trains from tariffs imposed under Section 301 and other relevant trade regulations.
Model trains are a niche market that promotes STEM education, creativity, and relaxation. The hobby has a significant cultural and historical impact in the United States, with many enthusiasts passing down their passion to future generations. Imposing tariffs on model trains has resulted in increased costs for hobbyists, small businesses, and the model train industry as a whole.
The tariffs have negatively impacted the hobby by:
Increasing costs for model train sets, accessories, and parts
Reducing sales and revenue for small businesses and retailers
Limiting the availability of certain model train products
We urge the United States government to consider the unique nature of the model train hobby and its contributions to American culture and education. Exempting model trains from tariffs would:
Support small businesses and the model train industry
Promote STEM education and creativity
Preserve a beloved American hobby
We respectfully request that the United States International Trade Commission and the Office of the United States Trade Representative consider our petition and work towards exempting model trains from tariffs.
Specific tariff codes for exemption:

HS Code 95030030 - electric trains, scale models
Electric trains, incl. tracks, signals and other accessories therefor; reduced-size "scale" model assembly kits

The Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS) tariff code for electric model trains, including tracks, signals, and accessories, is 9503.10.0000. This code covers electric trains and their related components, and the duty rate for these items is typically free.
