Exempt Fentanyl Test Strips from Drug Paraphernalia Category in Illinois

The Issue

Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that's up to 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine, is being laced in recreational drugs at alarming rates without users knowing.

In Cook County alone, there were 4,283 opioid-related deaths in only two years. Nearly 82% of them were fentanyl-related.

One easy, affordable way to check whether fentanyl is laced in your drugs is by using Fentanyl Test Strips. These life-saving strips are only $1.00, but are currently illegal for sale in easy-to-access places such as Walgreens and CVS in Illinois.

Illinois Representative Tom Guillardi is sponsoring a bill that would exempt FTS from this unfair categorization, but he needs as many signatures as possible to build momentum for it to pass.

It's time Illinois lawmakers showed us they care our communities' wellbeing. Signing this petition gets us one step closer to preventing needless death, and using fentanyl testing strips as a tool to save lives.
