I am a retired US Army Special Forces Medical Sergeant, and I am also 100% disabled. Since we refinanced our home in 2020, our mortgage has gone up by more than $500 due to taxes and insurance premiums. If my family, which has two incomes, is finding this increase difficult to manage, I can only imagine the struggle of others who may have worse disabilities than I do and for whom working isn't easy.

In Colorado alone, there are thousands of veterans with a disability rating of 100%. These brave men and women have given so much for their country. Yet they are not exempt from property taxes - an additional financial burden that many find hard to bear on top of their existing challenges.

The state already collects income tax revenue. It's time we consider how we can further support those who've risked everything for us. Exempting veterans with a 100% disability rating from property taxes is one way we can show our gratitude and provide them with some relief.

This small benefit would go a long way towards easing the financial strain on my fellow service members, who have already sacrificed so much for our freedom. Let's honor their service by providing them with this much-needed relief.
