Mississippi has very transphobic laws on the books for your gender marker change and name change. You not only have to petition the court and it must have exact wording. To the effect of John doe is changing his name on his birth certificate. You also have to a letter from your practitioner saying that you have transitioned. This is transphobic in nature and segregating a section of people that are already marginalized and mistreated. I'm trying to update my children's birth certificates so that my new name is reflected on them. I have to go through the courts again to get this done with specific language. I am attaching below of what they require for each. I want to have less issues when saying to schools and such when I'm not technically on their certificates now.
