As you may be aware, Evolve Bloomington has closed down and emptied the pool for the season and possibly until next upcoming May. We, the residents, are greatly disappointed and irritated by this yet another closing of the pool area. Since the opening of the complex, the pool's use has been limited, to say the least. Residents of the 2018-2019 school year saw this first hand and made exceptions due to the ongoing construction of the property, which of course was advertised to be finished before the school year began and continued late into the fall. Current residents are now experiencing closures of the pool as well, often for reasons unexplained. With this last closure of the pool, it is time we collectively take action.
One of the most prevalent issues imposed upon residents with the closing of the pool is Evolve's rent price. It's worth noting that Evolve's rent price is significantly higher than many other apartments in Bloomington. The justification for this rent price resides in the amenities meant to be provided by Evolve. The pool is the most advertised of these amenities through pictures on the Evolve Bloomington website as well as many more on their public Instagram account. The fact of the matter is that a significant portion of the rent residents are paying is attributed to the use of the pool. Such is to say that given the many occasions that the pool has been closed, Evolve residents are being greatly overcharged. Additionally, Evolve intends to raise their rent prices starting next August. As of now, residents individually are forgoing hundreds of dollars in rent a month, a charge meant to recognize the availability of the pool. This issue alone shows that Evolve's decision to close the pool is highly unethical.
As previously mentioned, many of the reasons for pool closures have been vague and remain unexplained. While it is announced to residents that these reasons regard rule violations such as leaving out trash or glass, any other details are left unexplained. Additionally, these rules have been enforced in no other way than pool closure. This proposes an issue given that the pool is left completely open to non-residents, of whom are not informed of any rules and pay nothing for disregarding them. There is no reason for every resident to pay for the actions of few individuals, especially if said individuals are not residents themselves.
By the signing of this petition, we believe that Evolve Bloomington should reopen their pool to residents or reimburse them for the time the pool is closed.
