The issue of the 2 squatter camps on the corner of Witkoppen & Main road, has been going on for years, and it’s time for action.

These 2 squatter camps, pose the following issues:

immigration - it’s estimated that more than 70% of inhabitants are undocumented illegal immigrants.

Health - only one of the squatter camps has access to portaloo’s, who cleans them removes waste, it appears no one. Raw human sewage is being dumped into the Jukskei River, servitudes are blocked, with this comes diseases: diphtheria, staphylococcus but to mention a few, and not limited. Flies, Rats (vermin). Winter is a nightmare for residents in and around the area, smog from the fires. 

Health - no legal access to clean running water, electricity or ablution facilities.

Safety - big signs warning motorists that it’s a hot spot for smash & grabs. Vagrants that become aggressive when motorists refuse to give money. Constant and ever increasing number of vagrants at those robots no matter what time of day. It’s a hazard driving those roads. 

Drugs - well known fact, drugs are being manufactured & distributed, the gangs run amok. Crime is ongoing. Rife, illegal trading. 

Social Child Protection: Child prostitution, children being raped, forced into partaking in crimes and being made to beg. 

Surrounding land depreciation- Real Estate isn’t desired in these surrounding areas. Ironically rates & taxes go up on average 7% each year, but properties lose value, year on year. 

Government has been made aware of these issues and more, over the last few years, and have done nothing, in essence turned a blind eye, and these 2 camps grow bigger each day.

Clayoven is provincial land. Ginger Park is privately owned land. The landowner is aware of the situation but doesn’t seem to be motivated to take back his land!

Enough of meetings, now is the time for action. It’s time for the Government to hear from the people who are affected on a daily basis, and catch a wake up.
