STOP DOUBLE SUICIDE WITH DAZAI

The Issue

Osamu Dazai, as many know, is a character from Bungou stray dogs whose dream in life is to commit double suicide with someone. This is often played off as a joke, or worse, an aesthetic. Suicidality is not an aesthetic. Which is why it saddens (and shocks) me to see so many playlists on YouTube dedicated to this aesthetic, unintenionally or not. Because while some may see this as harmless, it is far from it. Teenage suicide is romanticised enough as it is, and the number is only increasing around the world. It is tragic, not "cute". So seeing as Osamu Dazai is such a beloved character by many youths in particular, I don´t think it´s such a good idea to make him some sort of symbol for the suicidal teens. I didn´t really think of this as a problem before, so I can see why many still don´t. However, that all changed with my depression. At my most vulnerable, impressionable, to suicide and self-harm, making my pain into an aesthetic seemed the easiest. And it almost killed me. Please be considerate of this, and please think about what consequences a seemingly innocent playlist or whatever it may be can have on people, particularly the young.
